TA Instruments grants Dr. Randy Ewoldt with the “Distinguished Young Rheologist” Award

New Castle, Delaware, USA. January15, 2013 - TA Instruments is pleased to announce the latest recipient of the “Distinguished Young Rheologist” award: Dr. Randy H. Ewoldt, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Ewoldt and his group study rheology with a combination of experiment, theory, and an eye toward design based on rheological behavior. Specific materials of interest include polymer gels, yield stress fluids, and suspensions of actively-swimming particles. The research includes development of new rheometry methods that are material-agnostic and therefore applicable to all rheologically-complex materials. Dr. Ewoldt has been an early leader in the fast-growing field of Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear (LAOS) experiments and has contributed greatly to the understanding of these new measurements.

The recipients of the Distinguished Young Rheology Award are nominated by a group of the most established and respected academic researchers in the field of rheology. This program is designed to help accelerate the research of new academics through grants of rheometer equipment.

“TA recognizes academia as a source of product innovation and research into new materials and applications that continue to grow the rheometer market. Our strong commitment to the academic market has been demonstrated for many years through our Academic Matching Grant program. The Distinguished Young Rheologist award is our newest program in support of our vision to maintain our leading market position through strong partnerships with the academic community” commented Terry Kelly, President of TA Instruments.

TA Instruments congratulates Dr. Ewoldt on this award and wishes him a long and successful career.

TA Instruments announces more “Distinguished Young Rheologist” Award recipients

New Castle, Delaware, USA. December 03, 2012 -TA Instruments has presented the Distinguished Young Rheologist Award to two scientists: Dr. Anson W. K. Ma, of the University of Connecticut, and Dr. Ali Mohraz, of the University of California, Irvine.

The Award cited Dr. Ma’s current work on interfacial rheology of nanoparticle-laden interfaces for stabilizing emulsions, and flow dynamics of nanoparticles in simulated blood flows for cancer treatment. Professor Ma is also a recent recipient of an NSF EAGER award, given for those projects that explore potentially “transformative” ideas or approaches.” Dr. Mohraz was recognized for his outstanding contributions regarding the rheology of colloidal dispersions, including the flow behavior of anisometric particles, the non-linear rheology of colloidal gels, and the structure and dynamics of polymer/colloid gels.

The Distinguished Young Rheologist Award recognizes young faculty members that show exceptional promise in the field of rheology and is designed to accelerate their research through equipment grants. Recipients are nominated by a group of the most established and respected academic researchers in the field. “The Distinguished Young Rheologist award program has been a success in support of our vision to maintain our leading market position through strong partnerships with the academic community. TA recognizes academia as a source of product innovation and research into new materials and applications that continue to grow the rheometer market. We have had strong commitment to the academic segment for many years through our Academic Matching Grant program.” Terry Kelly, President of TA Instruments commented.
